Pauline Papastrat, 74, Of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Pauline Papastrat, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died Monday, July 11. She was 74.

Born Feb.11, 1942, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of George and Helen Papastrat.

She was a Poughkeepsie High School graduate, and received her secretarial training at the Krissler Business Institute. She was a member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church. She was well known in Dutchess County having spent 25-plus years as a secretary in the judicial system.

From her duties in Family Court through her time assisting at the New York Supreme Court, she took great pride and honor in her service and commitment. She was the 2003 recipient of the prestigious Joseph Gagiliardi Award for Excellence (Ninth Judicial District).

She was strong-willed with a heart of gold. She always gave 100 percent in the care of and assistance to others. She was a member of the Elks Lodge #275 Poughkeepsie and had a longtime association with the New Hamburg Fire Department.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Salberg, her husband Glenn and their son Alexander; son, Al Kauffman, his wife Alora and their son Logan; and her sister, Barbara Retzer and her husband Lou Retzer.

She was predeceased by her former husband, Al Kauffman.

Calling hours will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at McHoul Funeral Home, Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 S. Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie. Entombment to follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church.
